Steve Huffman for Senate 5

Steve Huffman for Senate 5:

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Dr. Steve Huffman and I am the current state representative for House District 80, which includes all of Miami County and part of Darke County.  I am currently running to serve as your state senator. I am excited about this opportunity and hope I can count on your support.

We have been working hard this general assembly to make Ohio the best place to live, work, and raise a family. Senator Bill Beagle has done a wonderful job representing Senate District 5 over the last eight years. He is the first Republican to hold this seat in 40 years! Thanks to your support, both the House and the Senate have been able to make a lot of progress!

ü  Reducing Health Care Costs: As a physician, I understand that health care costs have risen out of control in recent years. In an effort to provide more transparency, I am sponsoring House Bill 416, which would require health care providers to provide a good faith estimate of the costs of medical procedures and treatments ahead of time.

ü  Strengthening the Economy: Since Republicans have regained control of the state, we have reduced government spending by over $1 billion, cut red tape regulations that stifle job growth, and balanced the state budget

ü  Combating the opioid epidemic: We worked to allocate an additional $180 million in the most recent state budget to ensure that state and local municipalities have the tools to fight this epidemic through targeted prevention, recovery, and enforcement measures. I am also the sponsor of House Bill 117 aimed at helping people convicted of drug offenses receive treatment in and out prison in an attempt to reduce recidivism.

Although we are making a great deal of progress for the people of Ohio, we still have work to do. The Democrats have worked hard to win this senate district every cycle, and we must be prepared to work hard again this year – but I’ll need your help to do so.  I have never before been in a position where I needed to ask for help, but this year will be very different.

To this end, please join me on Monday, September 24 for a fundraising reception with special guest Congressman Jim Jordan.

It will take place at Signature Lounge in Troy.  Our suggested contribution is $50 per person and $100 per couple.  We are also working to identify an event committee, so please contact me if you would like to be supportive at the Chair ($1,000), Host ($500), or Sponsor ($250) levels.

Even if you are not able to attend, please consider sending a contribution to my campaign committee.  Every contribution helps and will be spent wisely during this tough election year.
